Applicable Platforms

This document describes how to type the Mmuock alphabet under the following platforms:

  1. Windows
  2. Linux
  3. Mobile: Android, iPhone, iPad

Note: the above layout might look different on mobile devices. In particular, some non-alphanumeric keys (such as ~) might be hidden.

Using the keyboard

  1. Please refer to the diagram of the keyboard layout in the preceding section.
  2. Some keys on the keyboard can be used to produce more than one kind of character. For example, the n key can be used to produce both "n" and "ŋ".
  3. The default character that a key produces, is shown on the left hand side of the key and is in black colour; for example, "n". The other characters that can also be produced by the key, are shown on the right hand side of the key and are written in brown colour.
  4. To produce the letters that are in brown colour: first press the special key /, release it, then press the key that has the brown letter.

Producing accent marks

This keyboard layout allows you to mark all the tones of the Mmuock language.

Using one keystroke

This applies to the first 4 accent marks: ~ (tilde),  ¯ (macron), ´ (acute), and ` (grave).

Using two keystrokes

Produce the character on the top row and then press the two keys in the first column, and you will get the character indicated in the table. That is, when the letter on the top row is displayed and you type the 2 keys on the left-most column, an accent mark is placed on the letter.

Producing "dot above"

Type . (dot) followed by the letter on which you want to have a dot. The following table shows all the possible letters above which a dot can be placed.

Producing "dot below"

Type h after a letter in order to produce a dot below the letter. That is, when a letter—even if it has an accent mark— is displayed and you type h after it, a dot is placed below the letter.
